His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam says based on the fact that the world is constantly changing and developing, the demand on human resource capacity is more challenging, thus implicating also on the definition of a teacher's excellence. 

Realising this, His Majesty is pleased with the Ministry of Education's efforts to make the teacher's capacity a major focus in the education strategy, including the implementation of the Literacy and Numeracy Coaching Programme.  In this regard, the Monarch stresses the programme should not contradict national philosophy.  His Majesty made the reminder in a titah in conjunction with the 27th Brunei Darussalam Teachers' Day Celebration at the International Convention Centre in Berakas this morning.

The climax of today Teachers Day celebration was the presentation of the Teachers Day Awards to 27 recipients.  His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam presented the awards.

Upon arrival, His Majesty was greeted by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi Bin Haji Osman, the Minister of Education, Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Othman, the Minister of Religious Affairs as the Co-Chairman of the 27th Teacher's Day Celebration; Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Bahrom bin Pengiran Haji Bahar, the Deputy Minister of Education; and Dato Seri Paduka Haji Awang Mokti bin Haji Mohd Daud, the Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs.

Also present were His Majesty's sons, His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office; His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Mateen and His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Wakeel as well as other members of the Royal Family.

The function commenced with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah dedicated to Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien and teachers who have passed away.  This was followed by the reading of Doa Selamat led by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Doctor Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned, the State Mufti.

The ceremony continued with the reading of Surah Ali 'Imran by Awang Ahmad Syuza'iee bin Mudim Haji Matassim, the country's representative at the 2013 International Musabaqah Tilawah Al-Quran in Kuwait, while the interpretation was delivered by Awang Haji Mohammad Shahrol Azmi bin Haji Abd Muluk, the Deputy Director of the Centre of Core Knowledge, Seri Begawan Religious Teachers University College, KUPU SB.

In his opening remarks, the Minister of Education among other matters conveyed that the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Religious Affairs will continue to enhance teachers' excellence.  Yang Berhormat said under the Education Strategy of Wasasan Brunei 2035, teachers' excellence is measured through the National Key Performance Index (NKPI0 1.1), which is the percentage of qualified and top quality teachers.  The latest status of the assessement shows an improvement in the 2017 target achievements.  With the improvement, the Ministry of Education hopes to acheive the target of 90 qualified and top quality teachers by 2035.  The efforts towards this include updating the existing Teacher's Professional Development Framework and Guidelines to make it more comprehensive.

There was also a presentation of a video clip showcasing a collection of His Majesty's titah related to this year's theme, efforts by the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Religious Affairs in enhancing teacher quality through various exposures and student achievement in specific fields.

The ceremony was further enlivened with a presentation of Syair or traditional poetry titled 'Kecemerlangan Guru Teras Kejayaan Ummah' and a medley of Teachers' Day songs by Primary and Secondary Schools teachers as well as teachers from the Schools Department and the Special Education Unit.

His Majesty then presented the 27th Teachers' Day Awards.  The recipient of the Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Education Award which is the highest Teacher's Day Award was bestowed to Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Doctor Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, the Minister of Home Affairs.   Yang Berhormat Pehin's contribution in education is undeniable, especially in increasing efforts towards high quality education in order to produce a generation capable of contributing the national progress and development.

His Majesty then presented the Meritorious Teacher's Award to Dato Paduka Awang Haji Ali Hashim bin Haji Daud. Since becoming a Permanent Secretary in 1994, Dato Paduka played an important role in leading the efforts for the advancement of education in the country.  He was also active in activities related to community, religion and associations.

Five recipients received the Excellent Teacher's Award.  They are still in the service of His Majesty's government and represent different disciplines.  Awang Haji Mat Dani bin Haji Abu Bakar, received the Excellent Teacher's Award in School Leadership.  Pengiran Doctor Mohamad Iskandar bin Pengiran Haji Petra received the Excellent Teacher's Award in Engineering, while Awang Haji Maidi bin Haji Ahmad received the Excellent Teacher's Award in Special Religious Education.  Dayang Hajah Mariah binti Haji Abdul Manaf received the Excellent Teacher's Award in Management, and Dayang Zaitunah binti Haji Kurus received the Excellent Teacher's Award in Agro Technology.  Each of the recipients received an Honorary Certificate, four thousand dollars cash, and the priority to further education.

20 other teachers received the Special Mention Teachers' Day Appreciation Award.  Each of them also received Honorary Certificates as well as one thousand dollars cash and a plaque.  The Teachers' Day Celebration was first introduced in 1991.   The Teachers' Day Awards are significant because they represent the country' and the government's recognition to the teaching profession and professionalism.

This year's Teachers' Day carries the theme, "Kecemerlangan Guru Teras Kejayaan Ummah" or Teachers' Excellence, the Core of the Ummah's Success.  It emphasises the need for educators to be highly intellectual and to have integrity in refining the students' thinking skills and character in order to produce an independent and visionary generation.

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan Negara Brunei Darussalam presided over the swearing-in ceremony for the Deputy Minister for Energy and Industry at the Prime Minister's Office.

The swearing-in ceremony took place at Istana Nurul Iman. Also in-attendance was His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, The Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office.

The ceremony began with the reading of the letter of appointment by the Grand Chamberlain, Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Penggawa Laila Bentara Istiadat Diraja Dalam Istana Pengiran Haji Alauddin bin Pengiran Paduka Tuan Pengiran Haji Abu Bakar. The ceremony was for Dato Paduka Awang Haji Jamain bin Haji Julaihi whose appointment as the Deputy Minister for Energy and Industry at the Prime Minister's Office, came into effect on Thursday, 29th Zulhijjah 1438, corresponding to 21st September 2017. Prior to the appointment, Dato Paduka Awang Haji Jamain was the Permanent Secretary for Energy at the Prime Minister's Office.

This was followed by the swearing-in ceremony in the presence of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam by Dato Paduka Awang Haji Jamain.

At the sidelines of the 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, the Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade II, Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Dewa Dato Seri Setia Lim Jock Seng, attended the Informal Asean Ministerial Meeting (IAMM) and the Asean Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AFMM) with the UN Secretary-General and the President of the 72nd Session of the UNGA, which were both held on September 23.

The Golden Jubilee Celebration of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam's Accession to the Throne Celebration carves another grand history in the Brunei Darussalam monarchy. Members of the public should join and appreciate such a grand celebration as a way to express gratitude and happiness as well as undivided attention towards His Majesty's leadership and great contributions in pioneering the country's direction during the 50 years of His Majesty's reign.

The full rehearsal for the Golden Jubilee of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam's Accession to the Throne Celebration, especially the Ceremonial Parade, Audience Ceremony and the Procession around Bandar Seri Begawan was held today. His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister as the Patron of the Advisory Committee for the Golden Jubilee Celebration, took a closer look at the Golden Jubilee full rehearsal.

Also present was His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, as member of the Advisory Committee for the Golden Jubilee Celebration. In conjunction of the Golden Jubilee of His Majesty's Accession to the Throne Celebration, several matters have been discussed through meetings to ensure that all preparations for the celebration can be implemented. This portrays the continuous commitment of the sectorial committees towards ensuring that the Golden Jubilee celebration can be executed smoothly.

Meanwhile, the dissemination of information pertaining to the Golden Jubilee celebration through social Medias and websites was implemented by related parties. This is one of the efforts to ensure that the channelled information are clear and accurate. Such a celebration also portrays the strong belief towards the Malay Islamic Monarchy as the mould of the Bruneians. Apart from that, the celebration will also be a sweet memory, and will become an oral tradition amongst the citizens and residents in the country.

In celebrating the upcoming Golden Jubilee of His Majesty's Accession to the Throne, where the highlight of the event will take place on the 5th of next month, a number of preparations have been actively being carried out to uphold the wish of His Majesty in making the celebration a significant historic event. The rehearsal for the procession around Bandar Seri Begawan has provided an opportunity for citizens and residents, including foreign nationals in the country to take a closer look at the meaningful celebration. The rehearsal has been carried out several times to ensure that the event runs smoothly and according to plan.

The presence of His Royal Highness the Crown Prince's portrays His Royal Highness' high commitment and attention in leading the direction of every aspects of planning and preparations for the Golden Jubilee Celebration of His Majesty's Accession to the Throne. The procession will be participated by officers who have been assigned according to their roles in the 'Adat Istiadat Negara' which still remains intact to this day. The event portrays the glory of Brunei Darussalam which is led by a just and wise ruler. Apart from the local media, the event will also be covered by journalists from abroad. The public, especially the younger generation, will have the opportunity to witness the country's unique adat istiadat that continues to bloom in the country. The Golden Jubilee Celebration of His Majesty's Accession to the Throne symbolises the existence of the country's culture which will always continue to stand upright.

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam today joined His Majesty's subjects in the country in performing the Friday prayer and listening to the special Friday sermon at the Jame' 'Asr Hassanil Bolkiah in Kampong Kiarong.

Also performing the prayer at the mosque were His Majesty's sons, His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Wakeel.


The special Friday sermon was delivered by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Doctor Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned, the State Mufti.  Among other matters, it stressed the ummah must maintain family relations as well as the brotherhood in Islam.  Yang Berhormat said such relations are important and blessed by Allah the Almighty.  The State Mufti also emphasised that the ummah should not ignore misdeed and vice.  In the Khutbah or sermon, Yang Berhormat reminded that Allah frowns upon people who refuse to right wrongs or help the oppressed, adding that Allah favours the people who show disapproval at the very least towards misdeeds, vice and oppression.  In this regard, Yang Berhormat also highlighted the plight of the Rohingyas in Myanmar and that Muslims who ignore them would be the first to be punished by Allah the Almighty.

The Friday prayer was led by Yang Dimuliakan Begawan Pehin Khatib Dato Paduka Haji Suhaili bin Haji Metali Al-Hafiz.  During the prayer, the doa qunut nazilah was read to invoke upon Allah the Almighty to lessen the sufferings of the Rohingyas.

On the oppression of the Rohingyas, Brunei Darussalam, the Muslim ummah and the world regret the situation and demand the authorities in Myanmar to resolve the humanitarian crisis with the utmost justice.

His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office last night watched a Singapore League match between Brunei DPMM FC and Hougang United FC. The match took place at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas.

Hougang United FC led the game with an opening goal at the 8th minute through Fumiya Kogure's penalty kick. At the 27th minute, Kogure doubled the score for Hougang. DPMM FC netted its sole goal at the 74th minute through Rafael Ramazotti. Hougang continued to widen the gap as they netted 2 more goals at the 76th and 84th minute. The result Brunei DPMM FC 1, Hougang United 4 remained until the final whistle.

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam has bestowed the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah 'Sultan's Scholar' Scholarship to four excellent students.  The ceremony took place at Istana Nurul Iman this afternoon. Three students received the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah 'Sultan's Scholar' Scholarship for the 2017/2018 session while another received a scholarship for further studies at a higher level.  The four students will further their studies at prominent universities in the United Kingdom and Egypt.

Also present at the ceremony was His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Muizzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office. The function began with the reading of Surah Al-Fatihah led by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Doctor Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned, the State Mufti. His Majesty then conferred the "Sultan's Scholar" Scholarship to the outstanding students.  The first recipient, Awang Muhammad 'Azim bin Abdul Hadi, a former student of the Hassanal Bolkiah Arabic Boys Secondary School will further his studies in Lughah Arabiah or Arabic at Universiti Al-Azhar, Mesir.

Dayang Amal Aqilah Fathiah binti Haji Abdullah, from Maktab Sains Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan will further her studies in Veterinary Medicine at the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom. The third recipient Awang Teo Zhi Perng, completed his advanced level at the Tutong Sixth Form Centre.  His next destination is the Imperial College London in the United Kingdom where he will study Material Science and Engineering.

Meanwhile Dayang Nurul Syadirah binti Awang Sayang has received the prestigious Sultan's Scholar scholarship previously and achieved a Bachelor of Science with 2nd Class Upper Honours in Mathematics, Operational Research, Statistics and Economic (MORSE) at the University of Warwick in the United Kingdom. Dayang Nurul Syadirah will be studying for her Master's degree in International Public Policy at the University College London in the United Kingdom.

Doa selamat was read by the State Mufti. His Majesty then received the recipients and their parents at the Junjung Ziarah ceremony and mingled with them.  His Majesty first consented to the conferment of of the Sultan's Scholar scholarships in 2006. Since the first conferment of the prestigious scholarship until this year, 46 students have received the scholarship.  Starting in 2013, the Yayasan expanded the Sultan's Scholar scholarship to a scheme for further studies up to the Doctor of Philosophy or PhD level.  Until 2016, four scholars have further their studies to the Doctor of Philosophy level and two others received scholarships for Master's degrees.  Attending the ceremony were Members of the Yayasan Board of Governors and Board of Directors as well as Permanent Secretaries at the Ministry of Education and Ministry Religious Affairs.

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, the Minister of Defence and Supreme Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces in a titah calls on the Royal Brunei Armed Forces to continue strengthening their internal defence, including spiritual and religious resilience in the face of the deviation of ideology.

His Majesty also stresses that the RBAF should give more attention to the country's preparedness or alertness in facing the increasingly worrying cyber threats. His Majesty made the titah at the 56th Anniversary Celebration of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces at the Royal Brunei Navy Base this morning. His Majesty says in its 56 years the RBAF has played its role effectively in maintaining the peace and sovereignty of the country. The responsibility is very big a challenging especially in the borderless world situation. His Majesty adds the technological explosion has also resulted in new threats. The most evident threat today adds His Majesty is the actions of certain parties throughout the world who use various ways to influence the community to sympathise with and support their objectives.

His Royal Highness Prince Doctor Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office as Pro-Chancellor of University Teknologi Brunei, UTB yesterday officiated UTB's fourth Convocation Festival. With the theme "INNOV8", the festival was held in conjunction with the institution's Convocation Ceremony and takes place at the UTB Library Complex in Tungku Link, Gadong.

Upon arrival, His Royal Highness the Crown Prince was greeted by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi bin Haji Osman, Minister of Education as Chairman of UTB Council and Professor Doctor Dayang Hajah Zohrah binti Haji Sulaiman, Vice Chancellor of UTB.

The event commenced with the reading of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat dipimpin oleh Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Awang Salim bin Haji Besar.

His Royal Highness then officiated the fourth Convocation festival. This year's Convocation theme "INNOV8" portrays the elements of innovation at UTB. The theme emphasised on innovation of an organisation that can assist and contribute toward improvements in thinking, ideas, research quality, teaching and learning as well as communication with the public that will have new added values that can be utilised, in line with UTB's status as a university of engineering and technology. The number 8 that can be found within the theme signifies the eight important areas where innovation has been applied towards achieving excellence as a whole.

His Royal Highness then viewed exhibition that contain eight components that portrays different innovative approaches in eight major fields including network, research, campus, entrepreneurship and leadership. All of these are catalysts towards producing UTB graduates who can make impactful contribution to the nation. The 'Innov8 Network' exhibition showcase UTB's efforts in strengthening and diversifying innovative researches through network collaborations with various local and international institutions as well as industries.

Meanwhile, the 'Innov8 Research' exhibition focuses on two projects by graduates in the field of Mechanical Engineering. The 'Innov8 Campus' showcase the efforts to provide a conducive campus and strengthen the infrastructures for research and learning. His Royal Highness then viewed the Isle Graden, which was officiated by His Royal Highness during the second Convocation Festival in 2015. At the 'Innov8 UTB SB', His Royal Highness also officiated the 'UTB Start-up Kiosk'. Students from UTB Business School displayed their project titled 'Terpisah Movie by Creight Media', 'PLUS EXP, and 'Mayang Couture'.

Meanwhile, the 'Innov8 SCI' exhibition by UTB's School of Computing and Informatics display projects such as 'Subduing the Audience in an Immersive Digital Environment; Interactive Driving Lessons using Virtual Reality; the Smart LED Street Light System that won first place under the Tertiary Category of the Brunei ICT Awards, BICTA, 2017.; as well as the Smart Waste Management and Monitoring System. At the Lecture Hall, His Royal Highness viewed a short horror film titled 'Terpisah' produced by students of UTB School of Business as their final year project.

The 'Innov8 Faculty of Engineering' features several engineering projects such as the development on the design and fabrication of an automated shoe rack and bionic leg. Meanwhile, the 'Innov8 Enterprise' is one of UTB's efforts in implementing its responsibility towards the community through the involvement of the students in various levels. UTB established a new Enterprise Office with the aim to provide high quality training.

At the 'Innov8 Leader' exhibition, it focus on innovative implementation of community engagement programmes by UTB students. His Royal Highness also mingled with the students who are under the 'Innov8 Leader' programme. The Convocation Festival is held annually to celebrate the students who have completed their studies. A series of events have been lined up in conjunction with the festival including the Career Fair, Khatam Al-Quran ceremony and the 'Innov8 Run and Cycle'. UTB's Convocation Ceremony is scheduled to take on the 30th of this month at the International Convention Centre in Berakas.

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, has consented to send a message of congratulations to Her Excellency Halimah Yacob, on the occasion of Her Excellency's new appointment as the President of the Republic of Singapore.

In the message to Her Excellency, his Majesty conveyed that Brunei Darussalam and the Republic of Singapore shared a special and unique relationship and looked forward to working closely with Her Excellency to continue the warm and close bilateral ties that Brunei Darussalam and the Republic of Singapore have long enjoyed. In ending the message, His Majesty wished Her Excellency success in her very important position and looked forward to the pleasure of meeting Her Excellency in the near future.

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, yesterday attended the Official Welcoming Ceremony in honour of the State Visit of His Majesty to the People's Republic of China. The Ceremony was held at the Eastern Plaza, the Great Hall of the People, Beijing. Accompanying His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam was His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Mateen.

Upon arrival at the Eastern Plaza, His Majesty was welcomed by His Excellency Xi Jinping, President of the People's Republic of China. His Majesty was later introduced to State Dignitaries of China. Followed by the introduction of Brunei Darussalam's delegation members to His Excellency President Xi Jinping.

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, yesterday held a Bilateral Meeting with His Excellency Zhang Dejiang, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) of the People's Republic of China which is held at the Reception Hall, Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Accompanying His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam was His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Mateen.

Upon arrival, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam was greeted by His Excellency the Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of the People's Republic of China. In the meeting, His Majesty and His Excellency discussed in strengthening people-to-people exchanges and welcoming more parliamentarian engagement. Both sides also discussed ways to enhance bilateral economic cooperation, and emphasised the importance of increasing connectivity between Brunei Darussalam and China.

His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, attended a Wreath-laying Ceremony held at the Monument to the People's Heroes. Accompanying His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam was His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Mateen.

Upon arrival, His Majesty was introduced to His Excellency Kong Xuanyou, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China; and His Excellency Yan Zhongqiu, Vice Chairman of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the 12th Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC). His Majesty then laid a wreath at the monument. The Monument to the People's Heroes, which stands in the centre of Tiananmen Square, was built as a national monument to commemorate the heroes who gave their lives in defending their nation during the 19th and 20th Centuries.

His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam this evening arrived in Beijing, People's Republic of China for a State Visit. Accompanying His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam was His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Mateen.

Present at Beijing Capital International Airport to greet His Majesty on arrival was His Excellency Chen Xiaodong, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China. Also present to greet His Majesty was Her Excellency Datin Paduka Magdalene Teo Chee Siong, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Brunei Darussalam to the People's Republic of China. Upon arrival, His Majesty was presented with a bouquet of flowers.

His Majesty then walked past a Static Guard mounted by the People's Liberation Army. His Majesty then boarded a motorcade towards a renowned hotel in Beijing where His Majesty would be residing throughout the duration of the State Visit. Diplomatic relations between Brunei Darussalam and People's Republic of China was established on 30th September 1991. Since then, the two countries have enjoyed broadening cooperation in various areas such as trade and investment, energy, agriculture, defence, ICT, culture, air services, tourism, health and education.

Upon arrival at the Pulau Pinang International Airport in Bayan Lepas, His Royal Highness was greeted by Abdul Bari bin Abdullah, Mayor of the Langkawi Municipality; and His Excellency Dato Paduka Haji Alaihuddin bin Pehin Orang Kaya Digadong Seri Lela Dato Seri Utama Haji Awang Mohd Taha, the High Commissioner of Brunei Darussalam to Malaysia; and senior officers from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Malaysia and the High Commission of Brunei Darussalam in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The Deputy Sultan then attended the Royal Ceremonial Funeral of Al-Marhum His Majesty Sultan Al-Mu'tassimu Billahi Muhibbuddin Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah Al-Haj, Sultan of Kedah Darul Aman at Istana Anak Bukit, Alor Setar, and the State of Kedah Darul Aman.

Upon arriving at Istana Anak Bukit, His Royal Highness was greeted by Yang Mulia Dato Lela Putra Dato' Tunku Jaafar Laksamana bin Tunku Nong Jiwa, a member of Kedah Darul Aman's Royal Family. His Royal Highness then proceeded to pay the final respect to Al-Marhum Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah Al-Haj, the late Sultan of Kedah Darul Aman.

Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah Al-Haj, Sultan Kedah Darul Aman passed away on Monday, 11 September 2017 at 2.30 in the afternoon, at the Istana Anak Bukit, Alor Setar, Kedah Darul Aman. His Majesty, who had reign the State of Kedah Darul Aman for 59 years, was 89 years old. Al-Marhum Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah Al-Haj also made a Malaysian history by elected twice as the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, which was 21 September 1970 until 12 September 1975; and 13 December 2011 until 12 December 2016.

His Majesty Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah Al-Haj was born on 28 November 1927. On 14 July 1958, he ascended the throne of the State of Kedah Darul Aman after the demise of his father, Sultan Badlishah ibni Almarhum Sultan Abdul Hamid Halim Shah. He was installed as the Sultan of Kedah Darul Aman on 20 February 1959.

He received his early education at Sekolah Melayu Titi Gajah, and then went to the Sultan Abdul Hamid College in Alor Setar. In 1952, when he was the Raja Muda of Kedah, Sultan Abdul Halim attended Wadham College, Oxford, in London, graduating in social science and public administration. The late Sultan Abdul Halim has left Her Majesty Sultanah Hajah Haminah Hamidun and two princesses, Her Royal Highness Dato' Seri Diraja Tunku Soraya; and Her Royal Highness Tunku Temenggong Kedah, Brigader Jeneral Tan Sri Dato' Seri Diraja Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz. Accompanying His Royal Highness to the Royal Ceremonial Funeral was Yang Berhomat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Othman, Minister of Religious Affairs.

From Istana Anak Bukit, Alor Setar, Kedah Darul Aman, the Deputy Sultan and delegation then proceeded to Pulau Pinang International Airport in Bayan Lepas. His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office, this morning conducted a working visit to inspect the preparation of the upcoming Golden Jubilee Celebration of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam's Accession to the Throne, specifically the launching of the Eco Corridor Park, Sungai Kedayan and Get Together and Junjung Ziarah Ceremony by the four districts.

His Royal Highness the Crown Prince, who is also the Patron of the Advisory Committee for the Golden Jubilee Celebration, was greeted on arrival by the Co-Chairpersons of the Executive Committee for the Golden Jubilee Celebration, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Doctor Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, Minister of Home Affairs; and Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Setia Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abd. Rahman bin Haji Ibrahim, Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister of Finance. Also greeting His Royal Highness was Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Bahrin bin Abdullah, Minister of Development.

Upon arrival at the launching site of the Eco Corridor Park, Sungai Kedayan, His Royal Highness was briefed by Haji Mohd. Salleh bin Haji Abd. Karim, Acting Director Drainage and Sewerage, Public Works Department on the programme that will be conducted during the launching ceremony.

His Royal Highness was then proceeded to the site area for the Get Together and Junjung Ziarah Ceremony where His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam will meet and greet the people from the four districts.

The Eco Corridor site has an area of nine hectares and is part of the 2011 Master Plan Development projects of Bandar Seri Begawan, which is under the Regeneration of Eco Corridor River banks Project. Amongst the objectives of the Eco Corridor are to mitigate flooding for Sungai Kedayan catchment areas; to improve connectivity and promote culture as well as a healthy lifestyle for the public; and to provide a platform for future economic development.

This working visit reflects the concerns of His Royal Highness in ensuring that all events for the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam's accession on the throne will run smoothly and will become remembered through the ages.

ONE-HUNDRED-AND-NINETEEN Bruneian companies departed for the upcoming 14th China-Asean Expo (CAEXPO) yesterday at the Brunei International Airport. The expo will take place in Nanning, China at the Nanning International Conference and Exhibition Centre (NICEC) from September 12-15.

Joining the delegates were Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Dewa Dato Seri Setia Lim Jock Seng, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade II; Pehin Datu Singamanteri Colonel (Rtd) Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Awang Haji Mohammad Yasmin bin Haji Umar, Minister of Energy and Industry at the Prime Minister’s Office; Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports; Dato Seri Paduka Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah, Deputy Minister of Finance; Dr Haji Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metussin, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism; and Dato Paduka Haji Mohammed Nor bin Haji Jeludin, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

A Business Matching Meeting on Tourism Cooperation will be represented by Dr Haji Abdul Manaf on September 13.

Exhibitors and visitors also have the opportunity to further leverage on the Chinese Asean Free Trade Area (CAFTA) – the biggest trade area in terms of population whereby there are 1.85 billion consumers and a combined GDP of almost US$2.5 trillion.

Under the circumstances of CAFTA, Asean member states can trade with China, and vice versa, with no tariffs and barriers that may impede its flow.

Industries have access to new markets, leading to an increase in consumers. Consumers also benefit from tax-free purchases while merchants can reetain reasonable prices. The CAEXPO acts as a key platform for the exposure of Asean businesses’ goods and services.

This year’s CAEXPO participants will also be joined by representatives from Energy and Industry Department at the Prime Minister’s Office, DARe (Darussalam Enterprise), Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism, Ministry of Development, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, and the Prime Minister’s Office.

His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office in a sabda stresses the important roles of the relevant committees especially the Media Committee in its efforts to publicise the Golden Jubilee Celebration and ensure the dissemination of clear and accurate information in tackling the problem of unverified information from going viral which may lead to negative perceptions and confusion amongst the public. However, His Royal Highness expresses confidence that relevant parties is capable of preventing the problem from getting out of hand. His Royal Highness delivered the sabda yesterday during the Fifth Meeting of the Executive Committee for the Golden Jubilee Celebration of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam's Accession to the Throne. The meeting was held at the Prime Minister's Office Building at Jalan Perdana Menteri. His Royal Highness also advises the relevant parties to address any issues requiring attention based on the outcome of the exercises and rehearsal held previously.

Upon arrival, His Royal Highness the Crown Prince who is also the Patron of the Advisory Committee for the Golden Jubilee Celebration, was greeted by His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien as a Member of the Advisory Committee for the Golden Jubilee Celebration.

Also welcoming His Royal Highness were the Co-Chairmen of the Executive Committee for the Golden Jubilee Celebration;

- Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Lela Cheteria Sahibun Najabah Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Aziz bin Pengiran Jaya Negara Pengiran Haji Abu Bakar, the Chief of Adat Istiadat Negara;

The meeting began with a Doa Selamat recited by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Imam Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Hamid bin Bakal, Member of the Executive Committee for the Golden Jubilee Celebration.

The meeting continued with a welcoming address by Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Lela Cheteria Sahibun Najabah Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Aziz, the Chief of Adat Istiadat Negara.

In the sabda, His Royal Highness shares the Titah of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam on matters pertaining to the Golden Jubilee Celebration.

His Royal Highness the Crown Prince in the sabda reminds every committee of the titah of His Majesty Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam that the celebration is a mark of respect and appreciation for a very significant event in the country's history.

The Executive Committee Meeting discussed matters regarding the final preparations of the events including matters raised in the previous meeting.

His Royal Highness Prince Doctor Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Mjesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office yesterday consented to officially launch Pesta Konvo or the Convo Festival of Universiti Brunei Darussalam, UBD. Held at the UBD Sports Complex, the festival is in conjunction with the 29th Convocation Ceremony of Universiti Brunei Darussalam which will take place at the Chancellor Hall on Thursday.

Upon arrival, His Royal Highness the Crown Prince who is also the Pro-Chancellor of UBD was welcomed by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi bin Haji Osman, the Minister of Education and Datin Doctor Hajah Anita Binurul Zahrinah binti Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Wijaya Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abdul Aziz, the Vice-Chancellor of UBD. Also present were Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Bahrin bin Abdullah, the Minister of Development, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ali bin Apong, the Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Zulkarnain bin Haji Hanafi, the Minister of Health and Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Bahrom bin Pengiran Haji Bahar, the Deputy Minister of Education.  The official opening ceremony began with the recital of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Awang Salim bin Haji Besar.

His Royal Highness then launched the UBD Convo Festival 2017.

His Royal Highness signed a plaque and later proceeded to view the exhibition. This year's convo festival carries the theme, 'Youths are the Catalyst of Transformation for a Successful Future'. The exhibition showcases thirteen innovative and creative projects by the students and alumni of UBD. The displays present the youths' ideas and their involvement in various fields and industries as well as their strong spirit in bringing innovations to the nation and in shaping its future.

The exhibits include the 'UBD Flyer' from the Centre for Advanced Materials and Energy Sciences in the form of a turbine engine designed for low wind areas. Also on display was the B.Notepad from the UBD School of Business and Economics a portable notepad which is foldable and enables convenient writing and presentations.

Several collections of clothes brands designed by locals are exhibited as a way to promote or introduce local talents in the fashion industry.

Www.Bruvera.Com is an online destination that lets users or customer's access, view and buys fashion, beauty and lifestyle products by local entrepreneurs. Bruvera was founded in October last year by two UBD students who have vast experience in computer science with a mission to diversify Brunei's exports through e-commerce.

The Education Intervention Programme, P.I.P of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah Institute of Education led by Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah practises the spirit of repaying or giving back to society through education. The UBD opened its doors to P.I.P by providing facilities and expertise to students last year. Under the programme, the students are able to experience productive and innovative teaching methods used by Yayasan P.I.P volunteers from the UBD Institute of Leadership, Innovation and Advancement, ILIA; and Entrepreneurship Village. The Convo Festival is an annual activity organised by the Students Affairs Section of the UBD Students Association Affairs with the cooperation of the Office of Promotion and Events Management, OPEM. The exhibition is open to the public until Wednesday.

The Qurban or sacrificial rites ceremony teaches Muslims to sacrifice part of their sustenance and fortune given by Allah the Almighty. It also reminds the ummah to be grateful to Allah the Almighty for the blessings and gifts that have been given to them. Several ministries this afternoon held Hari Raya Aidil Adha celebrations and sacrificial rites ceremonies.

The Ministry of Home Affairs and departments under it held a sacrificial rites ceremony at the Multipurpose Hall of the Fire and Rescue Department in Berakas. Present was Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Doktor Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, Minister of Home Affairs. The ceremony was enlivened with a talk delivered by Doctor Ahmad Asri Lubis, Assistant Lecturer at the Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University, UNISSA.

4 buffaloes and 2 goats were sacrificed at the ceremony. The sacrificial meat was distributed to 31 individual comprising the poor and destitute from Mukim Berakas 'A' and 'B' as well as staff of the ministry and its departments. Also present were Legislative Council Members, Yang Berhormat Pengiran Haji Ali bin Pengiran Maon, Penghulu of Mukim Berakas 'B'; Yang Berhormat Awang Naim bin Haji Kamis, Penghulu of Mukim Kota Batu; Yang Berhormat Pengiran Haji Mohamed bin Pengiran Haji Osman @ Othman, Village Head of Kampung Masjid Lama, Pekan Muara, Sabun and Pelumpong. Also present was Awang Haji Muhammad Sunadi bin Buntar, Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The Ministry of Education, meanwhile sacrificed 7 buffaloes in a similar ceremony held at the Multipurpose Hall of the Katok Secondary School. The sacrificial meat was distributed to 182 recipients by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi bin Haji Osman, Minister of Education. Also present was Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Bahrom bin Pengiran Haji Bahar, Deputy Minister of Education.

The Ministry of Finance and departments under it sacrificed 7 cows, 2 buffaloes and 3 goats this year. The distribution of the sacrificial meat was held at the Ministry in Commonwealth Drive. Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Setia Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Haji Ibrahim, Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister of Finance, was among those to distribute the sacrificial meat to 88 recipients. Also present to hand over the sacrificial meat were Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Hisham bin Haji Mohd Hanifah, Deputy Minister of Finance (Fiscal); and Dato Seri Paduka Doctor Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah, Deputy Minister of Finance (Investment). The ceremony was conducted by the Royal Customs and Excise Department.

Also holding a similar ceremony was the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism and departments under it. The ceremony took place at the Ministry in Jalan Menteri Besar. The sacrificial meat was distributed to 81 recipients by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ali bin Apong, Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism. 3 cows were sacrificed at the ceremony which was conducted by the Fisheries Department. Also present was Awang Wardi bin Haji Muhammad Ali, Acting Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism.

Meanwhile, 6 buffaloes were sacrificed in a sacrificial rites ceremony and Hari Raya Aidil Adha celebration organised by the Ministry of Communications and departments under it. The sacrificial meat was handed over by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Mustappa bin Haji Sirat, Minister of Communications to orphans as well as officers and staff of the Ministry and its departments. The ceremony, conducted by the land Transport Department, was highlighted with a special talk delivered by Doctor Andas Haji Ismuhadi bin Haji Abdullah, a speaker from the Islamic Dakwah Centre. Also present were the Permanent Secretary and Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Communications.

The Ministry of Culture Youth and Sports and departments under it held a similar ceremony at the Youth Development Centre in Kampung Tanah Jambu. The ceremony was enlivened with a short talk delivered by Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Haji Ajak, a speaker from the Islamic Dakwah Centre.

2 buffaloes and 2 cattles were sacrificed in the ceremony, and the sacrificial meat was distributed to 320 individuals comprising the poor and destitute as well as orphans. Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports handed over the sacrificial meat to the male recipients, while the female recipients received their share from Dayang Hajah Zuraini binti Haji Sarbawi, Acting Director of Social Service, Ministry of Culture Youth and Sports.

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah Ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday  joined the Royal Birthday Cycling Recreation 2017. The event is in conjunction with His Majesty's 71st birthday celebration.

The Royal Birthday Cycling Recreation received encouraging participations of all walks of lives. This shows that community in the country are sensitive on health by carrying out sports activities as a healthy lifestyle. Upon arrival, His Majesty was greeted by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports. Immediately after arrival, His Majesty launched the Royal Birthday Cycling Recreation 2017, followed by the release of 71 balloons by 71 youths.

Also in attendance and taking part in the recreation event, were His Majesty's sons, daughters and sister; His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office; His Royal Highness Prince Abdul Malik; His Royal Highness Prince Abdul Mateen; His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Wakeel, Her Royal Highness Princess 'Azeemah Nikmatul Bolkiah; Her Royal Highness Princess Fadzillah Lubabul Bolkiah; Her Royal Highness Princess Ameerah Wardatul Bolkiah; and Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Masna, Ambassador-at-Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

The cycling recreation circled Bandar Seri Begawan for some 11 point 5 kilometres passing through main roads among them, Jalan Masjid Omar 'Ali Saifuddien, Jalan Kianggeh, Jalan Sekolah, Jalan Kumbang Pasang, Jalan Perdana Menteri, Jalan Haji Basir, Jalan Sultan and ending at Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar Ali Saifuddien. Cycling is a recreational and healthy activity that was intended to develop a sporting culture and to strengthen solidarity through community involvement in-line with the healthy citizens' aspiration.

The Royal birthday recreation was also participated by cabinet ministers, deputy ministers, government officers and the public including foreign nationals. Majority of the participants were youths.

His Majesty's presence as a rider in the cycling activity was evidence of His Majesty's strong desire to encourage the country's people to take up sports and recreation as a healthy lifestyle.

The Royal Birthday Cycling Recreation 2017 jointly organised by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Development, Ministry of Religious Affairs, Ministry of Communication and Ministry of Health and other ministries as well as the Brunei Darussalam Cycling Federation shows that sports is recognised, honoured and an encouragement on par with other social sector in order to achieve the national development objective, as well as continuous solidarity and stability. The success of organising such an event portrays the country's overall approach involving all level of society including non-government organisations, NGOs are effective.

His Majesty as well as other members of the royal family watched the parade of 71 cyclists from the four districts who completed 71 kilometres which started at the Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar Ali Saifuddien at 6.20 in the morning.

The Monarch also received a Pasambah. The Royal Birthday Cycling Recreation has proven that it was not merely a healthy lifestyle activity however it was able to solidify solidarity among the citizens and residents in the country.

After the cycling recreation activity, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam took a closer look at the lively Bandarku Ceria activities around the Capital.

Happiness was clearly evident on the faces of members of the public when His Majesty conversed with them. His Majesty also watched various recreational and community activities carried out by the agencies involved. Also present were His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office; His Royal Highness Prince Abdul Malik; His Royal Highness Prince Abdul Mateen; His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Wakeel, Her Royal Highness Princess 'Azeemah Nikmatul Bolkiah; and Her Royal Highness Princess Fadzillah Lubabul Bolkiah.

His Majesty's warmth and intimacy in spending time and interacting with his subjects further enlivens the atmosphere in the capital. His Majesty's open attitude is the core driver for the citizens and residents to continue supporting and maintaining the monarch's sovereignty. The opportunity to meet their beloved monarch up close was also taken by the senior citizens. His Majesty through His Majesty's government continues to highly prioritise the interest and welfare of senior citizens in the country. One such example is the establishment of a Senior Citizens Activity Centre which provides facilities for senior citizens to take part in sports, recreational and enrichment activities.

The Youth Development Centre, PPB, which showcased a variety of cakes made by its trainees, also captured His Majesty's attention. The centre provides educational opportunities and assists those who are unable to continue their formal education and the unemployed to develop their potential, as well as to empower and increase their self-confidence. Also taking the opportunity to convey their junjung ziarah to His Majesty was the national contingent which took part in the 29th SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur recently. At the Games, the country managed to bag 5 silver and 9 bronze medals.

Since Bandarku Ceria was introduced, the programme continues to be well-received and supported by various parties, especially by the weekly-vendors and members of the public who wish to carry out recreational activities and spend time with the family at the weekend. His Majesty's presence will undoubtedly encourage the public further to continue supporting and enlivening the programme.
