Awang Abdul Mutalib received his appoinment as Permanent Secretary, Media and Cabinet at the Prime Minister’s Office on 12 November 2015. His previous appointments included amongst others,  as Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Communications (Apr 2013 – Nov 2015); Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister’s Office; and of the Ministry of Communications, respectively (2008 – 2013); and Acting Chief Executive of the Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry (AITI) of Brunei Darussalam (2007).

Awang Abdul Mutalib holds a Master of International Business (Economics & Commerce) from the University of Melbourne, Australia (2003), and a BA (Hons) in Management Studies from the University of Brunei Darussalam (1995).

He is also a Member of the Australian Institute of Management (AIMM, Aus.) since 2003. He had attended short courses under fellowship amongst others such as a ‘Leaders in Governance Program’ at the Civil Service College, Singapore (August 2013); an Executive Program on ‘Economic Growth’ at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, U.S.A (February 2013); and the ‘21st Century Partnership Invitation Leadership Program’ in Japan (January 2011).

Throughout his career in the civil service, he was bestowed ‘Seri Mahkota Brunei’ (SMB) in 2011 and received ‘Pingat Indah Kerja Baik’ (PIKB) in 2007. 

Awang Abdul Mutalib’s spouse is Dayang Noor Ashikin binti Pehin Dato Haji Mohammad Tahir, and blessed with seven children. He enjoys reading, listening to music, exercising at the gym, brisk walking and family outings.
