His Royal Highness was proclaimed as the Crown Prince on 10th August, 1998.
His Royal Highness was appointed Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office on 24th May, 2005.
His Royal Highness was born on 17th February, 1974 in Bandar Seri Begawan. His Royal Highness began his education in Brunei Darussalam prior to his overseas education at the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies, United Kingdom in October 1995. His Royal Highness graduated in 1997 with a Diploma in Diplomatic Studies upon completion of the Oxford University Foreign Service Programme at Magdalen College, University of Oxford.
His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah Ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam bestowed upon His Royal Highness the rank of General in the Royal Brunei Armed Forces in 2004, and the rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police in 2005.
In International Affairs, His Royal Highness has represented His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam on official visits, and attended conferences and official meetings abroad. His Royal Highness was His Majesty’s personal representative at the United Nations General Assembly and delivered speeches at those gatherings in 2008, 2011, 2012 and 2014.
The appointments held by His Royal Highness include Chairman of Autoriti Monetari Brunei Darussalam (2011-2020); Chairman of Wawasan Brunei Supreme Council (since 2014); Chairman of Board of Directors for Brunei Shell joint Venture Companies (Since 2018); Royal Patron of Brunei Darussalam’s Heart of Borneo National Council (since 2011); Patron of the Temburong District Development Authority (since 2018); Chairman of the Manpower Planning Council (2015-2019); Chairman of the National Disaster Management Council (2006-2018); and Chief Scout of the Brunei Darussalam Scouts Association (since 2013).
His Royal Highness is also currently the Pro-Chancellor of Universiti Brunei Darussalam; Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali; and Universiti Teknologi Brunei.
His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Literature to His Royal Highness on 4th September, 2006 at the 18th Convocation Ceremony of Universiti Brunei Darussalam.
In addition to affirming the status and calibre of His Royal Highness, these appointments and honours serve to add further credence and impetus to the role of His Royal Highness in supporting His Majesty’s leadership and governance.
His Royal Highness is married to Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah binti Pengiran Haji Salleh Ab. Rahaman. Their Royal Highnesses are blessed with two princes and two princesses, namely His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Muntaqim who was born on 17th March 2007; Her Royal Highness Princess Muneerah Madhul Bolkiah who was born on 2nd January 2011; His Royal Highness Prince Muhammad Aiman who was born on 7th June 2015; and Her Royal Highness Princess Faathimah Az-Zahraa’ Raihaanul Bolkiah who was born 1st December 2017.
His Royal Highness enjoys snooker and bowling, as well as badminton and football. His Royal Highness has also participated in several snooker and badminton championships, and has represented the country at regional and international tournaments.
His Royal Highness also has his own football club, known as DPMM FC.
