The Prime Minister’s Office was formed on the 1st of January, 1984, the day Brunei Darussalam regained its independence. It has since been led by His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, as Prime Minister.
His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince, was appointed Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office on 24th May 2005 by decree of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.
On 30th January 2018, His Majesty appointed two new (2) Ministers at the Prime Minister’s Office. This was followed by the appointment of one (1) additional Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office on 27th September 2018.
The Prime Minister’s Office currently has three (3) Permanent Secretaries and three (3) Deputy Permanent Secretaries, who are assisted by 18 Heads of Departments under the Prime Minister’s Office.
The Prime Minister's Office is the leading agency in the Government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam which provides guidance in the planning, alignment and implementation of national policies towards the development and progress of the State, and in maintaining the well-being of the people in accordance with the principles and the values of Malay Islamic Monarchy (M.I.B.).
Offices of the Prime Minister’s Office are located at Istana Nurul Iman as well as at the Prime Minister’s Office Building at Jalan Perdana Menteri, Bandar Seri Begawan.
